The Speech-Language Pathology Department at St. Helena Hospital provides
services to inpatients, outpatients and transitional care patients, as
well as home care patients. Speech-Language Pathology uses various treatment
techniques to improve receptive-expressive language, including: reading
comprehension and written formulation, oral motor fluency of speech, voice
function, cognitive linguistic skills (involving memory,
orientation, reasoning) as well as providing diagnosis and treatment of
swallowing disorders.
Staff from physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language
pathology work closely together to provide patients with the best treatment
to meet their specific needs. Treatment is available for many levels of
patient care within the hospital, and all services are provided by well-trained
and experienced speech language pathologists.
