Summary of the Program
Our program has three phases designed to identify and treat pain problems
which have not responded to continuing medical care.
Phase One: Initial Evaluation
This phase is completed on an outpatient basis prior to treatment. We will
talk to you about your pain, review your medical records and conduct an
examination and other testing as needed. We will share our results with
you and decide jointly if our program will be helpful to you in managing
your chronic pain. We will also assist you in determining if any or all
of your treatment can be covered by your medical insurance and/or
workman's compensation.Phase Two: Comprehensive Treatment
After insurance authorization is obtained, the patient is admitted to
our facility and the process of rehabilitation begins. Patients are
treated on an in-patient basis in the Hospital for 3 days. As the
rehabilitation progresses, participants move to Pacifica’s residential
treatment facility called Cold Springs, nestled on 20 serene and wooded
acres in the town of Angwin above Napa Valley. Cold Springs houses up to
6 patients in a large English Tudor-style home that provides private
rooms with televisions, telephones, and baths. There is a dining room
where patients eat organic meals prepared by our private chefs, a small
gym, group rooms for classes, and a heated pool for aquatic therapy. In
the forest, close to the house, is a labyrinth used for meditation,
contemplation, and therapy.
The Cold Springs portion of treatment takes 37 days and includes gentle,
medically supervised detoxification, if appropriate, as well as physical
therapy, exercise conditioning, aquatics, occupational therapy,
psychotherapy, group therapy, chemical dependency counseling, stress
management, mindfulness-based meditation, biofeedback, nutritional
counseling, medical visits, medication management, art therapy, and
family support education and counseling.
Pacifica’s team of experts understands the complexities of chronic pain
and tailors treatment for each individual. The team evaluates the whole
person and develops a treatment program to address not just the physical
issues, but psychological, social and lifestyle aspects that contribute
to patients’ chronic pain syndromes.
Phase Three: Follow-up
The importance of follow-up treatment and support has been well
documented. The Pain Management Program provides a full year of
follow-up on a bimonthly basis. How to Get Started
