CHILD AND ADOLESCENT INPATIENT SERVICES
Adventist Health/St. Helena Hospital Center for Behavioral Health's child and adolescent inpatient
services are separate, age specific units. The child unit provides
care for children aged 3 to 12 and the adolescent unit provides care for
ages 13 to 18. These units provide the required staff supervision, direct care and other clinical services.
Nursing station and clinical service office area, plus play areas, a gym and
a large classroom are the setting for this structured and active therapeutic
program.

Comprehensive
assessment including psychiatric evaluation, psychological
testing, medical history and physical evaluation, family assessment
and educational evaluation
Daily visits
by the patient's doctor
A supportive
and therapeutic setting supervised by trained staff
A multi-disciplinary
staff of registered nurses, social workers, licensed psychiatric
technicians, trained mental heath counselors, qualified special education
teachers, creative arts and expressive therapists and other support
staff
Individualized
plans of care that include input from the patient, family members
and care givers
Discharge and
after-care planning that is initiated at admission
An active therapeutic
program, including:
group-therapy
sessions focused on mental health issues
age-appropriate
group games and activities
educational
groups focused on coping with problems that contributed
to hospitalization
groups
focused on the development of social and communications
skills
education
and group therapy focused on chemical dependency
and addictive behaviors, with referrals as needed
education
classes taught by a trained teacher
art,
movement and play therapy sessions
regular
family groups offering information and support
family
therapy sessions
